Providing
Programmatic Excellence to
Residential Care Providers
At
its inception Appalachian Family Innovations was a group home project
. What has evolved in the residential support section of Appalachian
Family Innovations, is a dedicated staff of training, consultation,
and evaluation specialists who provide direct care staff (Teaching-Parents)
of group homes, shelter homes, and campus-based cottages with the
knowledge and skills to implement the Teaching-Family
Model. Agencies may contract with Family Innovations for
these support services. Through contracts, Family Innovations presently
provides support services via seven affiliated agencies to a total
of twenty facilities. These support services include:
- Assistance
in staff selection (for employment opportunities with
affiliated agencies click
here).
- Five
days of pre-service training that enables Teaching-Parents
to implement the Teaching-Family
Model of care and treatment (for a pre-service training
schedule click
here).
- On-site
consultation that provides direct feedback to Teaching-Parents
on their implementation of the program model.
- Twenty-four/seven
access to consultation via phone or pager for Teaching-Parents
- Professional
In-Home Consumer Evaluations that provide a comprehensive
measure of the Teaching-Parents' implementation of the Teaching-Family
Model and leads to Professional Certification by the Teaching-Family
Association.

Site
Development
Appalachian Family Innovations is one
of twenty-one Sponsor Agencies in the Teaching-Family
Association. Sponsor Agencies are authorized through the Association,
to guide Developing Agencies that may ultimately lead to that Agency's
certification as a Sponsor Agency. Family Innovations has successfully
lead three agencies through that process. Interested agencies may e-mail us by clicking

Specialized
Training
Appalachian Family Innovations can design and implement workshops
to meet special needs. The Missing Curriculum grew out of this type
of request. In 2000-2001 Family Innovations designed and carried out pre-service
workshops for Project Challenge, a statewide effort that provides
community service and restitution opportunities for court referred
youth. Interested agencies may e-mail us by clicking this link carl.lanier@familyinnovations.org or call us by dialing (828) 433-7176 for additional information. |
