Remedies offers Intensive Family Preservation Services
(IFPS) in Burke, Caldwell, Cleveland, Iredell, and Rutherford counties.
IFPS serves families with children who would otherwise be removed
from their homes and placed in foster care, juvenile facilities,
psychiatric institutions, or residential treatment facilities. The
goal is to remove the risk of harm to the child instead of removing
the child from the home.
IFPS
consists of four-to-six weeks of concentrated support in the family's
home and community. A specially trained family preservation worker,
who is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, provides a mix
of counseling and help with practical problems that is tailored
to each family's unique situation. The worker carries a caseload
of only two families at a time and can thus spend up to 20 hours
a week working directly with family members.
