Catawba
Valley Healthy Families (CVHF)
is a primary prevention program that aims to prevent child abuse
and neglect before it starts. The program serves Burke County and
provides intensive home visiting services to first time parents
who are overburdened, first-time parents of newborns. Families can
enroll anytime from the mothers last trimester of pregnancy
to the baby's three-month birthday, and services continue for up
to three years.
Specially
trained family support workers provide education in child development
and parenting, coordination of a wide range of community resources
for all family members, and linkage to health care services. Home
visits occur at least weekly for the first nine to 12 months, and
workers are on call to families 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
CVHF
is affiliated with Healthy Families America, a national initiative
to establish a universal, voluntary home visitor system for all
new parents to help their children get off to a healthy start.
Eligibility
for the Program: We provide assistance to first-time
parents. A first-time parent means a mom and/or a dad is parenting
a child for the first time, or either parent has had a previous
child who left the home before age one. If youre interested
in receiving support from this program, you may contact Jeannie,
Shanna, or Janice at (828) 433-7187.
