Catawba Valley Healthy Families

Catawba Valley Healthy Families (CVHF) is a primary prevention program that aims to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts. The program serves Burke County and provides intensive home visiting services to overburdened, first-time parents of newborns. Families can enroll prenatally or up to the baby's third month of infancy and services may continue for up to five years.

Specially trained Family Support Workers provide education in child development and parenting, coordination of a wide range of community resources for all family members, and linkage to health care services. Home visits occur weekly, and workers are on call to families 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

CVHF is a credentialed site of Healthy Families America, a program of PCA America, that strives to provide all expectant and new parents with the opportunity to receive the education and support they need at the time their baby is born to help them get off to a healthy start.

Eligibility for the Program: We provide assistance to overburdened, first-time parents. A first-time parent is defined as a mom and/or a dad who is parenting a child for the first time or either or both parents have lost a previous child due to formal or informal placement out of the home before the child turned one year of age. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving support from this program, you may contact Jeannie, or Valerie at (828) 433-7187.
